I don’t think I’ve officially shared my new arm tattoo with you yet. This is my new bat tattoo on my right arm. I sat for this tattoo the week that Phaedra died, which is why I haven’t blogged about it.
I went to Forbidden Images Tattoo Studio to see my friend Stefanee Schofield to get my adorable bat tattoo. I sent Stefanee reference images of different styles of bats – tribal tattoos, henna tattoos, and more – for her to come up with my unique piece.
Here’s what the bat tattoo looked like after the initial outline was inked in black. The beads and gems coming off the bat were done in purple, magenta, and turquoise blue. I love how it looks like there’s lace inset in the wings.

If you have sensitive skin like I do, where almost everything irritates it, I recommend you use something like Zensa Numbing cream to help deal with your skin. My skin gets irritated and hives over things like laundry detergent with dyes and fragrances, so I consider this a necessity! Zensa has 5% lidocaine in it. It doesn’t change the skin texture, affect color settling, color retention, or constrict blood vessels.
My first tattoo was on my inner wrist. My second tattoo was on my right thigh. My third was on my hand. My fourth was on my wrist and forearm. And my fifth was on my right shoulder. The best way I’ve found to heal your tattoos fast is to use Saniderm Bandages. The only exception to this was my wrist tattoo because I bend too much in the wrist for the Saniderm to adhere properly. The Saniderm makes it so you wet heal the first 5 days after your tattoo. This helps the color to be more vibrant and you’re less likely to reject the ink.
For my first tattoo Dave and I got matching Ampersands with a purple heart on our right wrists. These tattoos symbolize ‘Embrace the Power of And for Love’ and are representative of polyamory for us. Only the bottom right corner of this tattoo hurt me. We got these tattoos on Dec. 31, 2018.
My second tattoo is this LGBTQIA poodle. It was created using no black ink, all watercolor. I knew I wanted some sort of poodle tattoo and it took me a long time to decide on this design. From the left side of the face towards my inner thigh was incredibly painful for this one, but the rest of the thigh didn’t hurt at all. I got this tattoo on February 14, 2019.
