Tears of Joy Celebrate the Life of Your Loved One with a Rest In Peace Angel Tattoo

Rest In Peace Angel Tattoo

We have been praying since March for a vaccine, and wonder of wonders it’s finally here. These healthcare workers – and over 100, 000 more – have been sacrificing their health and lives to tend and care for the sick. They have quarantined from their families. They have stood in to be family for many others so that people would not need to die alone. They have gotten sick. They have died.

Last Sunday, we heard Mary’s Magnificat. She sung in the past tense, giving thanks for the great things God will do even though they had not yet occurred. This is the magnificat we wrote in our mid-week prayer and meditation gathering last week. We know not all of these things have happened yet, but because our hope is certain, we can give thanks today for we know one day God will do these mighty things.

Why

The road before us is still long, and there will still be too many who will die. But for just a moment, let us rejoice, give thanks, and cry tears of joy together for the Lord has done great things, and we are indeed blessed.

Nothing anyone can say will make you feel better. At least, not anytime soon.

Grieving the loss of a loved one is important. It’s a necessary emotional reaction that, in its own way, helps us celebrate life.

However, it’s important not to lose ourselves in our grief. For if we live in a place long enough, we become that place. We lose sight of the life we are meant to be living.

Celebrate

When you celebrate life, you learn to look back on your memories with fondness. Instead of burying yourself in sadness that your loved one is gone, you’ll find yourself smiling as your remember spending time with them.

Focus on the positive influence they’ve had on your life and others. Think about the things they did and said that made you laugh. Think about the things they did that annoyed you and have a chuckle at their silliness, their stubbornness, or their crassness (whatever the case may be).

As noted above, it’s important to grieve over your loss. To deny yourself of sadness is inhuman, and rarely even possible. Furthermore, trying to keep strong emotions bottled up inside can lead to psychological issues down the road.

So grieve, by all means, but learn how to do it positively. Learn some cognitive reframing techniques to help you celebrate life, rather than mourn death. It will not change your situation, but it will help you change your perspective.

Celebration

In some cultures, grieving the loss of a loved one is almost unheard of. Because of their philosophies and beliefs, they see death as one of the most important and anticipated experiences of one’s journey.

No matter what you believe in, it’s important to embrace the cycle of existence, in which death is a major component. Yes, we can be sad that we have lost our loved one in this life, but we must also celebrate the next step they have taken on their journey.

If you allow grief of someone’s death to consume you, you stop living your own life. Your relationships can suffer, you may lose interest in your passions, you could even lose your job if you stop putting in effort at work.

It’s important for others to respect your loss. You must set boundaries for your grieving process, but you can’t let it take over your life.
